One was a great success in the '70s, the other is a contemporary SUV sedan. The Citroen GS and C4 Cactus have nothing in common yet ... They do everything to clear the road with the magic of hydraulics.
Citroen GS vs Citroen C4 Cactus: it was better before?
Opposing a Citroën GS to a C4 Cactus? An absurd idea at first, yet they share some similarities. Apart from their blue color and their close jigs, they have a keen sense of comfort. Meeting between these two sedans that forty years separate.

The GS appeared for the first time at the car show in 1970. It was voted "Car of the Year" in 1971, thanks to its qualities of comfort and handling. She became GSA in July 1979 before finishing her career in 1986.
The C4 Cactus was released in 2014 then underwent a deep restyling early 2018. The goal, move away from the world of crossovers to join that of sedans to better replace the C4.
In September 1974 appeared the Pallas finish of the GS. Two years later, it evolves aesthetically (counters, lights, headband trunk ...) and technically (iodine headlights, double braking circuit ...). Our model benefits from these improvements.
In this picture, the relationship is far from obvious. A sleek and slender bodywork for the doyenne face a design highlighting an impression of robustness.
The proportions are totally different despite lengths close: 4.12 m for the GS and 4.17 m for the Cactus. The old is still less wide of 10 cm (1.61 m) and less high of 8 cm (1.35 m).
A height that it can vary thanks to its hydraulic suspensions "fed" to the LHM (mineral hydraulic fluid).
On the GS, the hydraulic system is less complex than on a DS. It supplies only the suspensions and the brake system. It is also the guarantee of a better reliability.
This is the return of hydraulics since the restyling of the C4 Cactus. It is equipped with dampers with hydraulic stops. But for the purists who are the citroenists, these new stops are not worth the "real suspensions" of the big time.
